Yala national park is the second largest national park in Srilanka.The park is located about 300km from Colombo.It was designated as a wild life sanctuary in 1900.Yala national park covers 979 square kilometers.

                  

 

Yala is the most visited park in Srilanka. Around 156,867 tourists visit the park .Especially europeans account for 30% of  total visitors.Yala area is mostly composed of metamorphic rock and classified in two series,Vijayan series and Highland series.It is situated in the lowest peneplain of Srilanka.
